Demos
Sometimes, demos of songs -- with all their lo-fi imperfections -- catch a spirit or energy or even a casualness that has more charm than anything you might work on for a year, perfecting in the studio. Here's one a of recent song of mine.
Sketches
I try to write as much as I can. Usually, it ends up being in the car. I record little snippets of musical ideas and listen back to them and try to come up with ideas for what they could evolve into. Posted below are a couple of "sketches," as I call them. Not songs, not demos, but they got something in 'em -- like that doodle in the margins of your notebook.
